Summer Reading Programme

Get wild about reading! Report-ins begin Wednesday 3 January!

Get Wild About Reading this summer!

The Summer Reading Programme is for primary school-aged children (ages 512) and helps to keep kids enjoying books and engaged with reading over the long summer school break. Most of all it's fun!

Registrations are now closed . . .

Don't forget to call in at your local library to pick up your booklet. While you are there choose some books, and start reading!

From Wednesday 3 January children can report-in weekly on the books they have read. Kids get fun incentives each time they report-in.

All children who report-in four times will get a brand new book to keep, and an invitation to the Summer Reading Programme Finale party, held at Waikanae Pools on Thursday 1 February at 4pm.

There are four ways to report-in about books you've read:

  • Talk to a Volunteen or Librarian at your library
  • Draw a picture
  • Write a paper review to be displayed in the library
  • Fill out our online form - check back here from Wednesday 3 January for the form

The last date to report-in is Friday 26 January.

If you are going away on holiday during January... No problem! Take your library books with you or use Axis360 to get free eBooks! If you have access to the internet kids can report-in using the online form. You can renew your library books online if you have a password for your library card.

We look forward to meeting you and hearing about what you are reading over the summer!
