Shout Out Awards Criteria

All nominees need to show a high level of dedication, passion and leadership in the work they are being nominated for. All nominees must have achieved something significant related to their nomination in the past 12 months.

Award Criteria

Expression

Are you the ‘arty’ type? The Expression Award recognises individual young people or groups of young people who shown a high level of passion and service to arts, music or culture in their local community and/or nationally.

Nominees will need to:

  • display excellence in music, arts or culture
  • show how they are an inspiration to other young people
  • show how they are recognised in the local or national music, arts and cultural community.      

Kaitiaki

Saving the world? The Kaitiaki Award recognises individual young people or groups of young people who are making considerable efforts to promote or manage a environmental campaign or project.

Nominees will need to:

  • show a high level of enthusiasm about caring for the environment and making change for the better
  • show knowledge about how their project is helping the environment
  • inspire others to make a difference

Innovate

Doing something innovative? The Innovate Award recognises individual young people or groups of young people who have successfully implemented a creative and original youth-led project.

Nominees will need to:

  • have successfully initiated and implemented a youth-led project
  • show a high level of creative skills in their project
  • show a high level of commitment about creating a project ‘for young people by young people’  

Inspire

Do you lead by example? The Inspire Award recognises an individual young person who provides positive leadership such as mentoring, guidance and coaching in the community (including other young people). Groups of young people cannot apply to this category.

Nominees will need to:

  • be a positive and inspiring role model to other young people
  • have the respect of peers and other young people in the community
  • show how they are learning and growing as a leader

Connected

Love your community? The Connected Award recognises individual young people or groups of young people who are volunteering with a community organisation.

Nominees will need to:

  • be making a difference to the community through volunteering
  • show strong community work skills in your volunteering
  • show how they encourage and support peers to be involved in volunteering

Strive

Overcome something big? The Strive Award recognises an individual young person who has overcome significant barriers in their life and is moving forward with a bright future. Groups of young people cannot apply to this category.

Nominees will need to:

  • has faced a significant barrier which a young person would not normally have to deal with
  • have shown resilience in overcoming a difficulty
  • has made a difference to their life and the community through positive actions

Professional

Are you an entrepreneur? The Professional Award recognises individual young people or groups of young people who have developed and run a successful business venture. The business must currently operating and based on the Kāpiti Coast but can reach a worldwide audience.

Nominees will need to:

  • run a youth led and initiated business venture
  • demonstrate innovative business development
  • be known by their customers as a positive inspiring business

Apprentice

Love your apprenticeship? The Apprentice Award recognises an individual young person who is completing or has recently completed an apprenticeship with a company on the Kapiti Coast. Groups of young people cannot apply to this category.

Nominees will need to:

  • show how they are or were fully committed to their apprenticeship
  • have gone above and beyond what was expected by their employer
  • be well respected by colleagues and management related to their apprenticeship

Star

Are you employee of the year? The Star Award recognises an individual young person who is always trying to further themselves and enjoys working with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. Young people must be currently employed in the workplace related to their nomination. The workplace must be on the Kapiti Coast.

Nominees will need to:

  • show high level of commitment to their job and always looking for opportunities to up-skill themselves
  • have gone above and beyond what was expected by their employer
  • show they are well respected by colleagues and management related to their workplace
