I started playing with clay in the 70s & fell in love with its manipulative tactile nature; mastering various clays, textures & techniques I create large garden sculpture, delicate pinch pots & jewelery also decorative inside pieces, wall art & more.
Much of my work has a Contemporary NZ or Maori influence featuring the nurturing koru, while other inspirations can morph into something quite unique and exciting.
To complement my clay sculptures I enjoy experimenting with glazes & alternative firing techniques including Raku, Pit & Wood Smoked Firing.
I use the lost wax process to create bronze sculptures, while grinding patina & mounting are tedious, the excitement of Sculpting wax, pouring molten bronze &smashing the ceramic shell reward me with 1off sculptures.
I am currently exploring figures influenced by acrobats in Cirque du Solei.
My Dolphin & Whale tails reflect my love & demise of these beautiful mammals
