In recent times, the Kāpiti Coast District has experienced increasingly regular and significant weather events. This page will keep our community updated on what's happening with our services due to maintenance or through weather events, from road closures to communities and facilities impacted, and what to do if you need to report incidents or events, or need help.
Please log reports of damage through Antenno, and check out our other channels at Follow us.
MetService weather warnings
There are currently no weather warnings for our district.
- See MetService Severe weather for further information.
- Now's a great time to clear your gutters and spouting of leaves!
Note: we share MetService weather warnings, but not weather watches. See MetService Weather warnings and watches for how these differ.
Sandbags
Sandbags, sand and empty bags are available for anyone living in flood-prone areas. You can collect these from the Council depot in Fytfield Place, Paraparaumu.
Road updates
If a road is not listed in this section, it is open.
Roadworks
- Ōtaki Gorge Road, Ōtaki – partially closed.
See Ōtaki Gorge Road slip for more information. - Top of Te Manuao Road to County Road pump station, Ōtaki, from Tuesday 20 February to mid-late June
Our crews will be laying pipes from the top of Te Manuao Road to the County Road pump station; these pipes will take water to and from the new reservoir. The work is expected to take up to four months. Traffic management will be in place and detours might be necessary at times. Our crew will work as quickly as they can and minimise disruption as much as possible. - Amohia Street - no left turn from Kāpiti Road, from March to May
The team will begin construction of a new left-turn slip lane from Kāpiti Road to Amohia Street (across the now empty corner site) in March. We expect this work will take eight weeks, and during that time there’ll be no left turn from Kāpiti Road into Amohia Street. We’ll be reinstating the detour that was in place earlier this year. All other traffic movements at the intersection will be unaffected by this work. - Winara Avenue, Waikanae – from Monday 13–Friday 31 May
We're upgrading the Elizabeth Street/Winara Avenue intersection. During construction, the site will be subject to a 30km/h temporary speed limit and traffic management will be in place. Access through the site will be provided for both motorists and pedestrians with a detour in place during part of the weekend to enable the contractor to construct the pedestrian refuge. Please take care when moving through the site.
Upcoming roadworks
- Poplar Ave, Raumati, by the Te Ara o Whareroa pathway – partially closed Monday 20 May–Friday 14 June
During this time, there'll be a 30km/h temporary speed limit and traffic management will be in place. The team will allow access through the site for both motorists and pedestrians travelling along Poplar Ave. During construction there may be periods when access to Queen Elizabeth Park via the Te Ara o Whareroa Shared Path will be restricted. If this happens, we'll make alternative routes available, with signs, and will publicise this several days before access is restricted into Queen Elizabeth Park.
Our team's carrying out this work to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Poplar Ave at this point.

- Whareroa Farm – Carex Valley
Due to recent water damage, the Horse Track is temporarily closed to horses. The track remains open for walkers, but take care.
Upcoming closures
No upcoming closures at this time.
Beach access
Closure
- North Beach Paraparaumu boat access closed
The North Beach boat accessway at Manly St is temporarily closed to vehicles following damage by tidal surges. There is a steep drop on the beach side which makes driving down unsafe.
Boaties wishing to launch are asked to instead use the accessway by the Kāpiti Boating Club, just down the road.
The access is still open for pedestrians, but please note the steep gradient may challenge some.
Partial closures
