Fixing and resurfacing Raumati Road
Image: The worksite. Green section – road rehabilitation; orange sections – resurfacing. See larger image [JPG 468 KB].
We’re doing this work because Raumati Road is getting worn out and needs to be fixed. This will make the road safer and stronger.
This spring, we’ll be resurfacing the road (from about Weka Rd to just past Matai Rd) and doing a deeper repair on about 130 metres outside Raumati Beach School.
The map above shows the areas we'll be working on:
- green section – road rehabilitation
this runs outside Raumati Beach School - orange sections – resurfacing
this runs from Raumati Beach School to 15 Raumati Road, and 52–72 Raumati Road.
We'll work on about 65 percent of the road in total.
We expect this work to take two months, and there will be some traffic disruptions. You can expect:
- detours at times
- stop/go traffic control.
We’re doing this work now to avoid construction during the busy summer season. If any of the work can't be finished during this time, we’ll move it to March/April 2025.
Timeline
Date | Activity |
August–September 2024 | Start works, fixing problem areas that need early attention for safety reasons. |
September–November | Fixing and resurfacing work. |
Resurfacing vs rehabilitation
We'll be carrying out resurfacing and rehabilitation (general fixing) work.
Road resurfacing means removing and replacing the top layer of the road.
Road rehabilitation means digging down and rebuilding the whole road structure, not just the top layer. We’ll make it strong enough to support current and future traffic.
