Fireworks
Important
Fireworks cannot be set off in public places like:
- beaches
- parks
- sports fields.
Many of us love fireworks for their sparks, colours and explosions in the night sky. But it's important to be safe and follow the rules.
Council doesn’t control the sale of fireworks. This is handled by the Environmental Protection Authority and Worksafe.
What you need to know
- Set off fireworks only on your own property, not in public places like beaches, parks and sports fields.
- Don’t set off fireworks late at night or in a dangerous way.
- Fireworks aren’t covered by noise control because they’re explosives. Report dangerous use to the Police or fire service.
Safety tips
Here are some safety tips to keep everyone safe:
- Keep pets inside, as they can get scared by the noise.
- Let your neighbours know you're going to let off fireworks, especially if they have pets or outside animals like dogs and horses.
- Only let adults light fireworks.
- Read and follow fireworks' instructions using a torch, not a naked flame. Make sure you follow these instructions.
- Point fireworks at the sky, not at people, buildings or anything that can catch fire.
- Never try to relight a firework that hasn't gone off.
- Always have a bucket of water or a hose ready.
