Over the Fence Cuppa | Neighbours Aotearoa
Having an over the fence cuppa in the beautiful Kāpiti Coast is the perfect way to take that first step in getting to know your neighbours better – or to renew the relationships you've already created. It encourages us all to connect with our neighbours and celebrate our neighbourhoods.
Getting to know your neighbours strengthens our community, making us all healthier, safer and more resilient – especially during emergencies when we need to support each other.
Over the Fence Cuppas
Over the Fence Cuppas are get-togethers organised by and for your local neighbourhood and are easy to organise. These fun and friendly events for you and your neighbours will help you know who might need extra help in an emergency – and who might have special skills to give you extra help, too.
There's no set format; you can host a cuppa in your home or garden, on the berm, or even in a local park. You might decide to share morning tea, a barbecue, supper, or anything in between.
Theme and event dates
The theme for our Over the Fence Cuppas this year is Let's Celebrate. How you interpret this is up to you. Neighbours can plan fun activities like sharing/swapping home grown produce, sharing cultures, or simply sharing cake and a chat. There's plenty of great ideas on the Neighbours Aotearoa website.
Over the Fence Cuppa coincides with Neighbours Aotearoa month-long campaign in March.
Important Dates:
- Registrations are open Tuesday 4–Friday 28 February.
- The launch event for hosts is on 6pm, Wednesday 12 March.
- The community-led events with Council support can run any time Friday 14 March–Sunday 30 March 2025.
Keep an eye out here or in our weekly Everything Kāpiti e-newsletter for up-to-date information and tips on how to make your event a success.
