Out and about Councillor Shelly Warwick this October

29 Oct 2024, 9:01 AM

I had the privilege of being invited to judge the best stall at the Ōtaki Kids Market on Sunday 13 October, what a difficult job. So many stalls and such a lot of thought, time and effort had gone in by many kids. There was a huge variety of goods on sale, and the market was very busy. Well done to all the kids and the Ōtaki Women’s Community Club for enabling the kids to have a space to give business a go. The Ōtaki Market is now on every Sunday, a great place for Christmas shopping.

Speaking of business, our new Ōtaki Te Horo Business Association (ŌTHBA) is up and running, with a meeting on 2 October to pass their constitution it is full steam ahead. Anyone with a business can become a member, membership is free for the first year, and the ŌTHBA will be a platform to support our local businesses going forward.

Associate membership is also being discussed to allow potentially for other groups such a volunteer groups to be in mix. If this is you, or you have ideas on this, the next meeting is on Wednesday 27 November, 5.30pm at the Railway Hotel. All welcome.

And now back to the road cones and disruption around town. Unfortunately, a necessary evil for a while, as we have much needed upgrades to pipes for both drinking water to homes, and waste to our sewage pond, obviously two separate jobs!!! Just like the disruption to our town with the PP2Ō works on Rahui Road and Ōtaki Gorge Road, one day it will all be gone. We will be left with upgrades that anyone in Wellington would envy. We have heard from a few people who are pretty over it all, but all I can say is these things take time. However, if you do have concerns with traffic or how people are acting on the roads, you can call police and they might do some traffic patrols with speed cameras to slow people down. You can also see Ōtaki projects on the Council’s website to keep up with the latest on the work in Ōtaki. Or attend our Ōtaki Community Board meeting on Tuesday 26 November, 7pm in the Supper Room and let us know what is going on for you.

Na mihi nui ki a koe whānau for your ongoing patience with all the work being done around town.
