Enrol
Enrolments are facilitated by the Electoral Commission. To be on the published roll, you have until 12 August to register online or via mail-in forms. Forms can be picked up from some NZ Post outlets or can be ordered via the Electoral Commission’s toll-free number 0800 36 76 56. Forms are also available at our service centres and district libraries.
Any enrolment option requires the voter to have a form of ID (either passport or driver’s licence) or a New Zealand Government RealMe account.
To be on the published roll, you have until 12 August to enrol to vote.
If you're not enrolled by 12 August, you can still vote, but you need to apply for a special vote. Complete your special vote papers at Council's offices in Rimu Road from 16 September.
Check your enrolment
If you’ve voted in a general election, you should be enrolled to vote already.
You can check online by looking through the Preliminary Residential and Ratepayer Electoral Rolls. This will be available from Friday 15 July at our service centres and Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki Libraries.
Not enrolled by 12 August? You need a special vote
You can still vote, but you need to enrol and apply for a special vote.
Special votes are for people that:
- did not receive their voting forms in the post
- lost of damaged their voting forms
- enrolled after 12 August 2022
- are on the unpublished roll, or
- are unable to post their vote in time to be counted
To cast a special vote, visit an Electoral Officials at our Council offices in Rimu Road from 16 September or call us and request a special voting pack.
The form can be completed on the spot or taken away and returned to us.
Don't live in Kāpiti, but pay rates
If you pay rates on a property in the Kapiti area, but live outside the area (non-resident ratepayer electors) you can vote by completing the Enrolment Form for Ratepayer Electors [PDF 189 KB] with your new or updated information.
