We are looking for a Human Resources Advisor to join our established team of 16 People & Capability professionals, this is a dynamic team that plays a key role in shaping the culture and success of the organisation.
Te tūranga: The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager (Human Resources Service Delivery) this role is a trusted HR Advisor who partners with people leaders. They provide a full range of high-quality HR advice, expertise and support for the effective implementation of business group plans and practices. This role works across a portfolio model at the Council and supports the Business Partner HR and across the P&C Group to deliver improved outcomes for their business groups.
This role will work both independently, but in collaboration with the Human Resources Business Partner to provide human centred solutions and operational services, providing support and advice to employees and people leaders.
Kō tō mahi – What you will do
People Leadership & Relationship Building: Build strong relationships with people leaders, offering tailored HR support aligned with organizational goals.
Generalist HR Support: Provide HR services, including advice on employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and development.
Collaborative HR Service Delivery: Partner with HR Business Partners to deliver HR services across the employee lifecycle, supporting key initiatives.
Employee Lifecycle Management: Manage HR processes like onboarding, performance reviews, and employee engagement, guiding leaders to enhance employee experience.
People Initiatives & Continuous Improvement: Contribute to HR projects and support continuous improvement to align with business goals.
Coaching & Guidance: Collaborate with HR Business Partners for guidance on complex HR issues, contributing to HR strategy development.
Support & Advice on Employment Matters: Offer practical HR advice on employment matters like discipline, performance, and conflict resolution.
Na tōu rourou – What you will bring
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience in a fast-paced, customer-facing HR environment, providing effective HR support and advice.
- Strong knowledge of Employment Relations processes, recruitment practices, HR policy application, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to provide proactive, pragmatic HR advice while managing ambiguity and finding solutions in complex situations.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Comfortable managing employer/employee expectations, especially in challenging situations requiring difficult conversations or pushback.
- Solid understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and contemporary HR/Organisational Development (OD) principles and best practices.
Communication & Technical Skills:
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex HR issues to various stakeholders.
- Strong competency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Cultural Competency:
- A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and an awareness of Māori perspectives and issues relevant to Māori communities.
- Knowledge of tikanga Māori and the ability to work effectively with Māori colleagues and communities.
