About the role
Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Advisor Policy who is looking for a new challenge? We are looking for someone to join our team who is motivated to make a difference, to build on current skills and experience from local or central government, or an equivalent analytical role, and help us achieve our community’s outcomes.
The Research and Policy Team, housed in the Council’s Strategy and Growth Group, plays a key role in managing policy activity across the Council. This includes developing evidence and information to inform policy direction as well as leading the development and review of Council’s policies and bylaws.
As a key member of the team, you will have the opportunity to support and lead a range of policy projects, as well as supporting the development of policy practice and processes across the team and Council. You will work closely with a diverse array of stakeholders from staff, senior leaders, elected members, iwi partners and the local community that will allow your relationship and communication skills to shine.

Skills and Experience
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and provide analysis and insights.
- Experience in project management – in both methodology and practical aspects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness and ability to work co-operatively with colleagues and the public.
- Comfortable facilitating and presenting in front of various groups, including formal Council meetings.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills using plain language and presentation skills to disseminate technical information to a broad range of people.
- At least two years’ experience in a policy role, or equivalent analytical role.
- Some experience in local or central government or working with local or central government preferred.
