We require an experienced Compliance officer to join our Compliance team at Kāpiti Coast District Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with and support the community, while supporting Council to achieve positive social and environmental outcomes throughout the district.
As a Compliance Officer you’ll deliver compliance-related functions, so experience working under district plans, local bylaws, legislation, and particularly the Resource Management Act, are essential. You will conduct robust inspections and investigations to monitor compliance, work with people to help them understand their regulatory responsibilities and achieve the positive social and environmental outcomes that we seek.
The compliance team reports to Team Leader Compliance and is part of the wider Environmental Standards group. You will be working alongside several other Compliance / Compliance and Monitoring officers, making you a small but mighty team crucial to the development of Kāpiti.

About you | He kōrero mōu
To excel in this role, you will have relevant work experience in local government compliance and enforcement, be a great educator and have a strong understanding of legislation and the different compliance pathways. Knowledge of Te ao Māori showing awareness and understanding is a key skill, and a current valid NZ Driver licence.
You’ll also bring strong knowledge of and experience in:
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of diverse people and situations.
- Excellent communication skills to enable effective and appropriate communication with people in situations that may be stressful to them.
- Experience working in a team environment and ability to work unsupervised, as required.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise own work and work effectively to deadlines.
