Senior Advisor Human Resources - Ref: 470
Kapiti Coast District Council is located in sunny Paraparaumu and represents the community and enables democratic local decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of the Kāpiti Coast.
We are looking for a Senior HR generalist to join the HR team on a fixed term basis to provide cover for maternity leave, while also bringing fresh insight to this dynamic team.
This is an exciting role that will add true value to the next phase of growth and development at the Council.
The Role of an HR Senior Advisor at KCDC
Senior HR Advisors at KCDC work collaboratively across the team and provide high quality, accurate and timely HR advice and HR support. Senior HR Advisors are required to build and maintain robust and effective working relationships with their portfolio of managers and partner with them in a collaborative manner, whilst also providing coaching and support to more junior members of the Team.

The term of this role is expected to be approx. 8 months.
Qualifications and Experience Required
It is important for this role that you have the following:
- A solid understanding of NZ employment legislation
- A minimum of 4 years recent experience providing HR service delivery
- End to end generalist experience, including ER and an understanding of the principals around Health and Safety
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and develop trusted relationships
- Comfortable dealing with all levels of staff and calm under pressure
- Ability to effectively deliver presentations to diverse audiences and convey information in the most appropriate manner
- Demonstrated computer literacy with knowledge, understanding and ability to competently work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common software packages
- Availability for flexibility with working hours, as may be required from time to time and the ability to respond as part of the Council’s CDEM team in emergency situations
- Knowledge of tikanga Māori and an awareness of Māori perspectives
- You must be a holder of a current and valid NZ Drivers’ licence.
It is also desirable that you have:
- Previous experience working in central or local government
- Experience in a unionised environment
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Human Resources.
