About this opportunity
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is looking for a new member to join the Kāpiti Coast District Licensing Committee (DLC). This committee is responsible for making decisions on alcohol licenses and manager’s certificates that require a hearing. One additional list member is sought to join the committee.
About the role
As a member of the District Licensing Committee, you will work alongside the chairperson and five other members to determine alcohol licenses and manager’s certificates in Kāpiti. The DLC operates as a quasi-judicial body, meaning its decisions can be appealed to the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority. Your role will involve participating in hearings and making informed decisions based on the evidence presented.
About you

- Understand the impact of alcohol-related harm on communities
- Have an understanding of local Māori communities and the cultural and ethnic make-up of local communities, including their aspirations, concerns and expectations about alcohol and alcohol-related harm
- Have experience applying legislative and regulatory frameworks
- Are familiar with the conduct of public hearings
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain the highest standard of professional and personal integrity.
Applicants should be prepared for flexible working hours, as work will be on a casual, ‘as required’ basis
Successful candidates will be contracted to Kāpiti Coast District Council and will not be employees of the Council.
