Cup of tea for your thoughts – councillors seeking views on district’s future

Over the next four weeks Kāpiti Coast District councillors are inviting the community to share their views and aspirations for the district over a hot cuppa. 

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11am – 1pm, Kāpiti Coast District councillors will be hosting drop-in sessions at the newly-opened Paraparaumu Vision Kāpiti engagement hub. The sessions are an opportunity for people to share what matters most and the changes they want to see in Kāpiti in the short and long-term. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be on offer.  

This is the third stop for Council’s roving Vision Kāpiti engagement hub, which has already spent a month in both Waikanae and Ōtaki.   

Kāpiti Coast District Mayor Janet Holborow says elected members are enjoying making their way round the district, talking to people, and getting a feel for what is most important to our communities.   

“Council has committed to showing up differently, giving people more opportunities to have a say on the future of our district. Providing a physical space for people to come and have a say is just one of the ways we are doing this.   

“The hub is designed to get people thinking about certain topics, our priorities, and the changes or trade-offs we might need to make so we can secure a future that is affordable and meets the needs of our community,” say Mayor Holborow.   

“This month the hub focuses on our 10 strategic priorities for the next three years, safety in our district, and networks and connections.   

“Outside of the drop-in sessions, the engagement hub can be visited at any time between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can leave feedback on any topic relating to our district, and all information gathered will help inform Council’s next Long-term Plan (2024) and the development of a districtwide vision.  

“Of course, the hub is not the only way people can have a say. You can share your thoughts online at haveyoursay.kapiticoast.govt.nz or pop into any of our libraries, pools or service centres and complete a feedback card.”  

“Our five community boards are also getting out and about, asking people to help shape a vision that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of each area. This mahi (work) will also feed into our districtwide vision.”  

The Vision Kāpiti engagement hub is open in the foyer of the Paraparaumu service centre in the main Council building at 175 Rimu Road. The last day of the Paraparaumu hub is Friday 24 November 2023. The hub will reopen in a new location in February 2024.
