Road safety infrastructure being installed across Kāpiti

Work to install raised crossings and pedestrian refuges at key areas on the Kāpiti Coast has started and will continue over the coming weeks.

Three of the five projects being constructed are raised crossings and form part of the implementation of the Kāpiti Coast District Speed Management Plan. Work includes:

• Winara Ave, Waikanae – install pedestrian refuge to make crossing safer (approx. two weeks' work)
• Seddon St, Waikanae – intersection improvements to improve accessibility (approx. one weeks' work)
• Raumati Rd, Raumati – raised pedestrian zebra crossing (approx. five weeks' work)
• Mill Rd, Ōtaki – raised pedestrian zebra crossing (approx. four weeks' work)
• Poplar Ave, Raumati – raised pedestrian/cycle zebra crossing (approx. three weeks' work)

Work is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2024.

These changes will make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross busy streets and reduce vehicle speeds in these areas - miking our community safer for everyone.

Contractors will be in touch with neighbouring homes and businesses prior to work commencing at each site, and temporary traffic management will be in place during work.

During construction work there may be some disruption. Thank you for your patience as we get this important mahi done.

The Speed Management Plan was consulted on and adopted last year.  The Government is currently reviewing New Zealand’s speed limit rules, and changes signalled do not impact the first stages of our work. We will reassess the Speed Management Plan once new Government direction is finalised.
