Blooming beautiful! – making the most of our garden spaces

We have some wonderful public gardens around our district for those who like to stop and smell the flowers! Here's just a few we’ve been enjoying lately.

Paekākāriki Village

Our team regularly outdo themselves with bright and cheerful planting in Beach Road.

With the vibrant cafe scene, there's many opportunities to stop and enjoy this space.

Raumati Marine Gardens

At the end of Raumati Road, this gem includes not only lovely gardens and green spaces, but our Wellington-famous Raumati splashpad and the Kāpiti Miniature Railway!

Grab the kids and a picnic, and make a day of it. See larger pic of Raumati Marine Gardens.

Mahara Place, Waikanae

The gardens along Marae Lane are regularly something to behold.

Take some time out from visiting the local shops, cafes or Toi MAHARA to stop and literally smell the roses!

Waimeha Domain, Waikanae Beach

You may have noticed our “new look” rock garden outside the wharepaku (toilet) block in Waimeha Domain on Tutere Street, Waikanae Beach.

Our team have traditionally planted this garden with colourful annual plants, which we know many in our community have loved. Unfortunately, over the last year we’ve discovered the local wild rabbit population loves this garden too, seeing it as their own personal salad bar!

Looking to solve this problem, our gardener Rosa Green came up with the concept of a “rock garden”. Her design features plantings leaning more towards succulents in a rockery-type bed. Rosa and our team of gardeners have brought it to life, and we love the way it looks!

Ōtaki Memorial Hall

The gardens around Ōtaki Memorial Hall are a wonderful green meeting space in the middle of Main Street.

Grab a coffee and a friend – or a book from the library – and enjoy the sunshine.

What others have we missed that you enjoy? Any of these new to you? Why not take a picnic or grab a coffee in a nearby cafe to enjoy these spaces this summer!
