Splashpad summer – water you waiting for?
Our splashpads are a highlight of our Kāpiti summer – here's some ways we've been making the most of these awesome spaces.
Pool and -pad day
Plan for a whānau swim day at our Ōtaki Pool – it’s one of the Kāpiti Coast's secret gems. With SPLASH! most days through the school holidays too, your kids will be happy and exhausted at the end of the day. And this is a day out you can do rain or shine – the worst that can happen is the kids get wet!
Making memories…
Pack sunscreen and a picnic, and make a day (or evening!) of splashpadding. Childhood memories are made of sunshine and whānau time!
Beach time is the best time
Make our Raumati splashpad part of a beachtime adventure – take a stroll on the beach, see who can find the most interesting shell, take a dip in the waves, build a sandcastle, or build a driftwood hut. Then
See out the day with fish and chips and a final sprinkle under the splashpad to rinse off. You’ll have tamariki who’ll sleep all night through, and plenty of brownie points for being the best grownups, too!
Your own Summer Splashpad Games Day!
Meet up with friends and whānau, and add in frisbee or backyard cricket, or retro egg-and-spoon, three-legged, or running races! Both Haruātai Park and Raumati Marine Gardens have plenty of grassy space nearby – you could even team up with new friends you meet on the day.
Snack on bite-sized splash time
Going to the splashpad doesn’t always mean you have to stay the day. Grab a coffee or snack to enjoy from one of the amazing local cafes and bakeries – both Ōtaki and Raumati are spoilt for choice. Spend 15 minutes at the splashpad between errands – the kids will be all the happier for it. Just make sure you have towels and togs or a change of clothes in the car!
