Keeping Kāpiti pools in tip-top condition

18 Jul 2024, 11:54 AM

We’re working hard this winter to keep our Kāpiti Coast aquatic centres in top shape.

Kāpiti Coast District Council says important maintenance work is underway or beginning soon at two pools - Coastlands Aquatic Centre and Waikanae Pool.

To allow this to happen safely and efficiently Coastlands Aquatic Centre will be closed for three weeks from Monday 22 July, reopening Monday 12 August.

During this time contractors will be resurfacing the centre’s concourse with an anti-slip treatment.

There will also be some work done on services under the concourse, the annual servicing and inspections on the pool’s movable floor will be done, and we’ll overhaul some of the pool’s filters.

Aquatics facilities manager Steve Millar says Ōtaki Pool is open and running extra aquafit classes during the closure.

“We’d like to thank the pool-going public for their patience while we get this work done and encourage them to check out the awesome Ōtaki Pool if they haven’t already,” Mr Millar says.

“This work is vital. Aquatic facilities are complex so it’s critical that we stay on top of programmed maintenance. This work protects this important community asset for the long-term.”

Meanwhile work is also underway at the Waikanae Pool in readiness for another bumper summer of fun.

“The concourse here was at the end of its life so we’re sorting that out, along with some of the underground pool and drainage services.

“Then we’ll be resurfacing and resealing the pools themselves – a cover will be over the pool for about six weeks from August so we can get this done in time for the new season.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Waikanae Pool this summer.”
