Kāpiti Know-how: creating classic summer memories at Waikanae Pool

3 Jan 2025, 8:00 AM

Our Waikanae Pool is a retro jewel of childhood summer fun. Set in lush grassy surroundings, with trees providing plenty of shade, the laidback feel of Waikanae Pool makes you wonder if you’ve gone back in time – and having recently celebrated its 50th birthday, many of our older generations also have memories of the pool from their childhood!

Summer sunrise splash

Pack up a homemade breakfast, or pick up pastries and coffee from the bakery, and head on down for a splash around or do some lengths to start your day!

What better way to wake up with the whānau, or to do some invigorating exercise first thing?

Work out in the sun

Check out our awesome summer group fitness programme, grab some friends (or make some new ones) and get along to our Aquafit and AquaZumba classes.

Great music and fun in the sun to get your heart pumping!

Lunchtime SPLASH! time

Usually for the young at heart, there’s no reason why everyone can’t join in – our SPLASH! sessions are on from 1–4pm every day through the school holidays. We put out the inflatables and turn up the fun! Bring along a picnic and have a ball.

Frisbee float and fun

Pack a frisbee, and alternate swim fun with a great game on the grass. When you’ve burnt off plenty of energy, have a gentle float and chat with mates before heading home.

Twilight grill and chill

Book our barbecue, gazebo and beanbags for dinner and a dip with the whānau. At the end of another great Kāpiti Coast summer day, there’s nothing quite like floating in the pool as the sun goes down or snuggling down into a beanbag under a tree with your favourite barbecue snack.

With its stunning outdoor setting, there’s so much you can do at Waikanae Pool. How will you turn back time there this summer?
