Confirmation of Transmission Gully opening gives Kāpiti certainty
The NZ Transport Agency’s announcement that Transmission Gully is scheduled to open before Christmas 2020 gives Kāpiti residents a solid date for the end of works.
“Transmission Gully is going to bring significant change to the Kāpiti district and we’re looking forward to what has been an incredibly long process – from consultation to planning to construction – finally being concluded,” Kāpiti District Mayor K Gurunathan says.
“With storms and earthquakes having their say this has been a challenging project for the constructors to deliver, so it is good to see an end is in sight.”
Ōtaki Councillor and transport portfolio holder James Cootes says a completed Transmission Gully will bring growth, opportunities and challenges for the district.
“It’s exciting to have a completion date confirmed and we look forward to a stronger and more resilient link to Wellington and the benefits this will bring,” Mr Cootes says.
“With Peka Peka to Ōtaki well underway and the Ōtaki to Levin expressway now confirmed we are looking at a safe and streamlined road network from top to bottom. This will make it easier for businesses to operate and families to get around.”
