Dog in Togs – Cancelled
We’ve made the tough call to cancel our annual 'Dog in Togs' event at Waikanae pools this Sunday.
While the event doesn’t meet the Government threshold on mass gatherings of 500 or more people together in one place, helping people avoid close contact with others as much as possible is an effective measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Keeping individuals, whānau and our communities safe and healthy requires a team effort.
More generally with regard to our pools, the Council is using the Ministry of Health guidance to inform our actions and at this time, there is no need to avoid public swimming pools.
Our facilities maintain very high standards of water quality, which is checked every three hours, and the chlorine levels in the pool will help to kill bacteria and viruses. We have also increased the frequency of disinfecting regularly handled surfaces within our facilities such as countertops, door handles, phones and bathrooms.
We encourage our swimmers to shower before and after they get into the pool, wash their swimming gear after each visit, and regularly clean their hands as per Ministry of Health guidelines.
Remember, if you or your whānau feel unwell, please stay at home.
