Akatarawa Rd closing for important repairs
From 1 November Akatarawa Rd is closing to through traffic for two weeks as important repair works are completed.
During this time access will be limited to residents only during the day (between 7am and 6pm), with the road reopening to through traffic at night and on weekends.
Access and Transport Manager Glen O’Connor says repair work includes culvert replacement and cleaning, retaining wall construction, road repairs and vegetation control.
“Akatarawa Rd is a challenging drive at the best of times so it is important we get these repairs done so it can be travelled as safely as possible,” Mr O’Connor says.
“In the last 18 to 24 months we’ve had a number of incidents of trucks getting stuck or leaving the road and this has caused some of the damage we need to fix. We’ve boosted our signage on this road to make it clear it is not to be travelled by long vehicles so this shouldn’t be an issue in future.”
Access to Staglands will be available from Upper Hutt and as normal via Waikanae during weekends.
“Thank you for your patience as we complete this work.”
