Council services remain restricted at Alert Level 3

Kāpiti Coast District Council Mayor K Gurunathan says the welcome move to Alert Level 3 shows the lockdown is working.

 “While the move to Alert Level 3 is a good sign that the country is getting this outbreak of COVID under control, we must all remain vigilant and continue to follow the guidelines which are designed to keep us all safe.

 “Most Council services will remain closed at Alert Level 3. Playgrounds, libraries, swimming pools, dog parks and public toilets stay closed.

 “One change is that waste transfer and recycling stations will be open at Alert Level 3,” said Mayor Gurunathan.

 “The transfer stations will have controls in place to maintain safe distances between people. The number of vehicles allowed entry will be restricted and we ask that one person per household takes their waste and recycling to a transfer station.

 “The regional recycling sorting plant will re-open and recycling will be processed. Collection companies will collect and process wheelie bins and glass crates.”

 Other guidance at Alert Level 3 includes:

• stay in your bubble, keep your distance from others
• continue to stay at home, and if you do leave your home to exercise or get supplies – stay local and keep a 2-metre distance from those outside of your bubble
• face coverings and scanning in using the COVID Tracer app will be mandatory in more places. It is encouraged that to wear a face mask whenever you leave the house
• travel is still restricted at Alert Level 3. You may travel for work, school, recreation, to go to the supermarket, pharmacy or for medical reasons. You may also travel to pick up goods in a contactless way

“Ministry of Health guidance is changing as the national situation evolves and as more is learnt about the Delta variant of COVID. So, I encourage everyone to stay up to date and do what needs to be done so we can soon see another reduction in Alert Levels.”

 “Thank you for doing your part to protect your whānau and our community. This is a marathon, not a sprint and our mahi is paying off, so let’s stay the course to stop Delta.”
