Reikorangi Road update
Felling of dangerously damaged 15-metre-high trees on Reikorangi Road in Kāpiti will begin today reports Kāpiti Coast District Council.
The road was opened this morning to allow residents urgent access but will be closed again for the tree felling to begin later this morning.
A large generator was taken into the valley while the road was open and connected into the network. It’s expected this will restore electricity to the homes in the valley until power lines are repaired. Electra has advised us the generator will be connected into the network by later this afternoon. Repairs to the power lines can’t begin until the trees have been removed.
Steve Cody, Incident Controller, said at this stage it’s not known how long the tree felling will take.
“We’ll have a better understanding once the removal begins and will provide more information as the removal progresses,” says Steve.
Residents are advised to contact Council on 0800 486 486 to report damage or if they need help.
