On-line water gauging resumes

Quick work by the Greater Wellington Regional Council water team has restored the on-line real time gauging of the Waikanae River flow cut off when vandals burned connections and access to the gauging tower last Wednesday.

The real time graph showing water flows is once again available on the Greater Wellington website or via a link from the Water Use section of Kāpiti Coast District Council’s website www.kapiticoast.govt.nz.

“The regional council team has restored the gauging and stabilised the monitoring tower and we understand they will be carrying out a formal recalibration of the system early next week,” GM Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon said.

“In the meantime the flow rate of just over 1850 cubic metres per second which we had estimated has been confirmed by the restored on-line, real time gauging.”

 Consumption rates remain around the 20 to 21 million litres per day. The maximum take permitted is 23 million litres and Mr Mallon urged residents to keep a rein on consumption.
