Council refuse bags no longer collected from 1 October
Council refuse bags will no longer be collected from 1 October 2013.
This follows a Council decision to stop selling refuse bags from 1 July 2013 due to a substantial drop in bag sales which made it no longer viable to provide the service.
The proposal to stop providing the service was first publicised in February and the decision to withdraw from kerbside refuse collection was made on 6 June 2013.
Retailers were immediately notified of the decision and their cooperation was sought in communicating the message to their customers.
Some retailers continued to sell-off excess stock after 1 July, but surveys indicate Council refuse bags are now virtually out of circulation.
Residents who still have Council refuse bags can continue to drop them off free-of-charge at the District’s transfer stations for a limited time.
