Water meters installation almost complete
The installation of water meters in Ōtaki is almost completed.
More than 3000 meters have been installed over the past few months by contractor Thomas Plumbing and Gas Ltd.
"They are now down to the last 40 in the commercial area," said Sean Mallon, Group Manager Infrastructure Services at Kapiti Coast District Council.
Most of the commercial properties already had manifolds so the task of installing the meter would be easy. Some, however, may need to be re-sited.
Mr Mallon said up to 10 new manifolds would have to be installed in Main Street around the retail precinct. "We have already talked to the shop owners about the best time in which to do this work. Work outside two of the shops will be undertaken at night to avoid disrupting their businesses. They are happy with that."
Mr Mallon said several paving stones would have to be lifted to make way for the manifolds, but the disturbance would be kept to the minimum and there would be a careful reinstatement of the surrounding area.
Thomas Plumbing and Gas were now concentrating on the Waikanae area where they had already installed more than 2200 water meters. "They are over the half way mark there," said Mr Mallon.
