Boat safety training at the Aquatic Centre
Coastlands Aquatic Centre swimming instructors learned all about safe boating this week and will pass these skills onto the community.
Julia Bryant of Coastguard Boating Education spent a morning training the instructors on boat safety equipment and how to use it, different sorts of personal flotation devices, dealing with boating emergencies and practical survival skills.
“Our instructors are now ready to help the community be more boat safe for summer,” Aquatic Facilities Swim School Manager Kerry Granshaw says.
This is the first time the boat safety course has been held at the Aquatic Centre.
“The facility is awesome,” Ms Bryant says. “It makes it more realistic, when you’re teaching people about how to be safe while boating, to have that outside feel with the light coming in through the roof.”
Groups and schools can book boat safety courses and find out more by ringing the Aquatic Centre on 296 4746.
A free water safety day for Ōtaki families will also be held at Ōtaki Pool on Sunday 14 Dec in conjunction with Surf Life Saving. Phone Ōtaki Pool on 364 5542 for more information.
