Council contributes $10k to Sportsperson of the Year Awards
Council is contributing $10,000 to the running of the Sportsperson of the Year Awards in May 2015.
This is the ninth year for the awards and, as in previous years, they will be organised by the Lions Club of Kāpiti.
“These awards recognise the great sporting talent we have in our community and it’s important that we show our support,” Councillor Penny Gaylor, Chair of the Environment & Community Development Committee, says.
Joe Franklin of Kāpiti Lions told councillors at their meeting today that without Council support the Sportsperson of the Year awards could not continue.
“The awards are a big deal for the local sporting community and acknowledge excellence and pride in our district,” he said.
“The wealth of talent we have here on the coast is truly amazing. Most of our top sportspeople are performing on the national and international stage. We are proud of what we have achieved in organising what has become a premier event for Kāpiti and we believe with the support of Council, we could take this to a higher level.”
