Around 9,000 people turned up to the “best ever” Kāpiti Sustainable Home & Garden Show at the weekend.
“It was a great family event with lots of happy people, a record number since the first show in 2005,” says Event Co-ordinator Margaret Sweetman. “The weather was fantastic and people were saying it was the best show yet.”
“There really was something for everyone. Our first lego eco town was a huge drawcard with kids and adults alike, celebrity chef Mike Van de Elzen’s food demonstrations were packed and the workshops were very well attended.”
“Of course, there was lots of interest in the eco-friendly products on display in all the stalls and many people had a go at heritage crafts in the school hall. We also had 14 school gardens, including early education, take part this year – a record number. It was fantastic to see so many young people participating.”
Mayor Ross Church says he was impressed by how many people turned up to the show.
“It was wonderful to see so many locals and visitors to the district enjoying themselves,” he says.
“The fact people showed such an interest, demonstrates how keen they are to find out how to live more sustainably.”
