Appointment to Paekākāriki Community Board
The Paekākāriki Community Board has filled its vacancy created by the resignation of member Jack McDonald in October.
At a meeting earlier this week, the board appointed Emily Boonan to the role of board member for the remainder of the 2013-16 triennium.
Ms Boonan:
- is qualified to be considered as an elected member being a New Zealand Citizen and on the parliamentary electoral roll
- is a longstanding resident of the Paekākāriki Community Board area
- has prior experience with community engagement
- is supported by iwi and all board members.
Board members canvassed their community networks to find a suitable candidate for the role and considered several people. After a number of discussions, they decided Ms Boonan was the best candidate.
Under the Local Electoral Act 2001, there is no prescribed process for choosing appointees to a community board. However, in keeping with the Act’s requirement for the new appointee to be publicised, an advertisement announcing Ms Boonan’s appointment will be published in this week's ‘Kāpiti Observer’ newspaper.
