Field of Remembrance launch
A Field of Remembrance commemorating the centenary of Kāpiti soldiers who died during World War 1 will be opened on Armistice Day, next Wednesday 11 November.
A hundred wooden crosses will be placed in the field, opposite the Coastlands Aquatic Centre, symbolising the Kāpiti soldiers involved.
The field will be blessed at 10.30am by Council Kaumātua Rakauoteora Te Maipi, Koro Don.
This will be followed by a ceremony which will include a speech from Mayor Ross Church, readings of ‘In Flanders Field’ and ‘The Ode’ by RSA representatives, prayers from the Paraparaumu RSA Chaplain, playing of the Last Post and the Reveille by a solo bugler, and finally the laying of a wreath. The ceremony is estimated to finish at 11.30am.
The Field of Remembrance will stay in place until Armistice Day, 2018.
