Kiosk lease finalised
Council yesterday formally signed off the future use of the kiosk in Maclean Park Paraparaumu.
Council’s Environment and Community Development Committee (ECD) approved a recommendation from the Paraparaumu Community Board that the lease be given to A Safe Kapiti (ASK). The group will be the head tenant on behalf of six groups that will share use of the building.
Known as the Kiosk Community Collective (KCC) the group comprises:
- ASK (A Safe Kāpiti)
- Greypower
- Kāpiti Patrol
- Age Concern
- Disability Information and Equipment Centre
- Neighbourhood Support
The collective plans to move into the kiosk from early October and to have an official opening event in early November.
Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board Chair, Fiona Vining, says she’s pleased the lease for the kiosk has been given final sign-off.
"The Community Board heard strong public feedback in support of the kiosk being used as a community asset.
“The process undertaken by the board to find a suitable tenant has resulted in a unique opportunity for Paraparaumu Beach and I look forward to working with the Kiosk Community Collective going forward.
“I would like to thank the evaluation panel for their involvement and the council for listening to community demand to save the kiosk."
Paraparaumu Ward Councillor, K Gurunathan says he’s satisfied the community’s views about the future of the kiosk were well canvassed before a decision was made.”
“Multiple meetings were held and widespread consultation undertaken to get an idea of the community’s wishes for the best future use of the kiosk.
“The fact that we have a diverse range of groups that all serve their communities in various ways is a great outcome and appropriate use of a much-loved community facility.”
Councillor Gurunathan thanked the evaluation panel that coordinated the expressions of interest and assessed the needs of various community groups.
