Mayor Ross Church welcomes Capital Connection reprieve
Kāpiti Coast Mayor Ross Church has warmly welcomed news the Capital Connection rail service has been saved.
"KiwiRail's announcement that it will keep the Capital Connection running for another three years is great news for all the Kāpiti Coast commuters who rely on it - particularly those in Ōtaki, which isn't served by other commuter rail services.
"It's a good decision and it's important to acknowledge the role that Greater Wellington and Horizons regional councils' funding commitments played in securing the connection's reprieve."
Mayor Church says the Kāpiti Coast District Council and local community boards had lobbied hard in support of the service, as had a number of Kāpiti residents.
"Our community has a great ability to pull together and we've been lucky to have had some very committed Kāpiti folks championing this cause, especially the Save the Capital Connection group. I know Ōtaki MP Nathan Guy has also been working hard with his colleagues in Wellington to find a solution. We owe them our thanks."
