Post Office boxes to stay in Raumati
The post office boxes associated with the old Post Shop in Raumati Village are to stay.
New Zealand Post has announced that from Thursday 1 October the Raumati Village Four Square in Margaret Road will also run the PO Box Lobby across the road next to the old Post Shop.
Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board Chair Fiona Vining says the news is a great outcome for the community and shows what can be done when a community makes a stand.
“Our community made it very clear to NZ Post, they were not going to take the proposed closure of their village Post Shop lying down. Through public protest and lobbying we managed to save the postal services in the village. The question of whether the post boxes would stay was uncertain until today. I am delighted to hear they will be”.
Fiona Vining says the post boxes are vital to local people and businesses and there is a waiting list of people wanting them.
“It’s such a relief and a testament to community action that NZ Post has made the decision to retain them.
New Zealand Post Government and Community Relations Manager Holden Hohaia says New Zealand Post is very happy to have been able to work with the current franchise operator to find a permanent location for the PO Boxes.
