Progress is made on Paraparaumu and Waikanae Town Centres

Kāpiti Coast District Council is continuing its programme to transform the Paraparaumu and Waikanae town centres by going out to tender for technical services to develop the designs.

Council agreed to the ‘achievable’ programme for the transformation of the town centres when it adopted its long term plan ‘FutureKāpiti’ in June 2015.

Infrastructure Services Group Manager, Sean Mallon, said the ‘achievable’ programme involves delivering the building block projects for Paraparaumu and Waikanae. 

“The first stages of implementation will include work on Mahara Place in Waikanae, the Coastlands/Civic area, and Kapiti Lights in Paraparaumu.

“Currently, we’re requesting proposals from interested and suitably qualified teams of designers and builders for the first six years of the project.

“We need to bring in technical expertise to develop designs and work with the community, private sector and stakeholders on the next level of detail to turn the concept plans into reality.

“We expect to be seeking feedback again as we develop the designs in the new year.

“We have deliberately built a lot of flexibility into the programme so we can adapt and reflect opportunities that may come along.”

Mr Mallon says the achievable implementation programme means Council can carry out the work in a way that is financially sensible.

"Our approach is consistent with Council’s balanced approach to managing rates and borrowing to the limits we have set and takes into account the rest of our work programme.”
