Safety improvements to Otaihanga Road intersection with Greendale Drive
Work will begin this week on improving visibility around the intersection of Otaihanga Road and Greendale Drive.
Trees will be removed, the bank excavated and a gabion basket wall constructed on Otaihanga Road so motorists and cyclists coming out of Greendale Drive have a better view of traffic coming west along Otaihanga Road.
Gabion baskets are rectangular wire mesh cages filled with rocks to form an earth retaining structure and are often used in highway projects.
The works were prompted by local residents who approached council with concerns about the poor visibility at the intersection.
A grassy knoll to the west of the road junction, and a light pole found to be obstructing visibility, have been removed. The construction of the gabion wall will be the last stage of the safety improvements..
The work is expected to take around a month to complete.
