Young Kāpiti photographer wins Council competition
Mayor Ross Church recently presented young Kāpiti photographer Grace Simmonds with a $200 box of local gourmet food products as the winner of Council’s #lovekapiti photo competition.
The competition, run on Council’s Facebook page, attracted 147 entries, which include images of beach and landscapes as well as friends and families having fun in and around the district.
Mayor Church says Grace’s winning photo - Sunset at Raumati Beach - was a ‘stunner’.
“Grace snapped a beautiful image of her son Tui at Raumati Beach in the light of the setting sun. It captures the essence of the Kāpiti we all know and love,” said Mayor Church.
Paraparaumu College student Sapphire Taylor won the under 18 category with her photo of the Mangaone bush walk.
“Looking at this photo you can almost smell the bush and hear the birds,” says Mayor Church. “It has so much texture and depth.”
Sapphire will be presented with her prize of a $100 Coastlands voucher at the Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board meeting on 17 February.
A gallery of the entries can be viewed on council’s Facebook page.
The box of food products presented to Grace Simmonds contained Kapiti Artisan Breads, Whittaker’s chocolate, Tuatara Beers, Genoese Pesto, Kapiti Cordials, RJs Liquorice, Purebread Peanut Butter, Bennicks Eggs and lots of Kapiti Cheese.
