Election nominations open and time to enrol
Council and community board nominations have opened in preparation for the 2016 local body elections.
Electoral Officer Jude Wadsworth says Kāpiti Coast District Council’s nominations are open for the positions of mayor, councillor, Ōtaki Community Board, Ōtaki Ward, Paekākāriki Community Board, Paekākāriki-Raumati Ward, Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board, Paraparaumu Ward, Waikanae Community Board and Waikanae Ward.
“If you want to help continue making Kāpiti Coast a thriving, diverse and vibrant district, then why not consider standing as a candidate in this year’s election,” she says.
Kāpiti Coast residents are also being reminded that they must be enrolled to vote in the elections.
“It’s a good time to check if you are enrolled. Enrolment and updating details are easy and can be done online at www.elections.org.nz,” Ms Wadsworth says.
If you’re not enrolled, you have to do so by 5pm on Friday 12 August to receive a postal vote and if you enrol after this date you will have to contact the Electoral Officer to obtain a special vote.
Voting will take place between 16 September and 8 October.
Nominations close at noon on Friday 12 August, so prospective candidates are being urged to not leave it until the last minute.
More information about the candidate or enrolling and voting is available on the council’s website – www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/elections
