Fresh slip at Blue Bluff, Ōtaki Gorge Road
Published 20 Feb 2016
A significant amount of debris came down the slip-prone bank at Blue Bluff onto Ōtaki Gorge Road (13km inland from SH1) last night as a result of recent heavy rain.
No people or vehicles were in the area at the time.
Council staff and contractors are currently at the site assessing the situation. We advise people to stay well clear of the whole area.
Ōtaki Gorge Road has been closed to vehicles and pedestrians since mid-December last year due to the instability of the site and cracks showing the land is moving.
An alternative walking track well above the slip site was recently opened by the Department of Conservation (DOC). Details about the track can be found on the DOC website.
