Get involved in this year's Youth Festival!
There is still time to get involved in Kāpiti Coast’s annual Youth Festival in two weeks’ time.
Young locals can participate by performing on stage, registering for skate and beach soccer competitions, volunteering and/or having a stall in the pop-up market (go to the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council Facebook page for details). Or, just come along and have fun!
Activities during the day include a line-up of performers (with DJ Spell the headline act), skate and soccer competitions, food and market stalls, as well as dance, street art and DJ workshops. As the stars come out, an outdoor cinema will roll out a movie.
Ōtaki, Kāpiti and Paraparaumu Colleges will be hosting a schools’ tour during the week leading up to the big event to give students a taste of what will be on offer at the festival. They’ll be treated to music from DJ Spell, as well as teacher-student soccer competitions, dance battles and giveaways.
Previously known as YouthFest, Kāpiti Youth Festival is a new and exciting partnership between Te Puāwaitanga o Ngā Kākano (a rangatahi youth leadership initiative supported by Council) and the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council.
The event, on Saturday 9 April at Paraparaumu Beach’s Maclean Park (kick off time 11am), celebrates what it is to be a young person on the Kāpiti Coast.
“We aim to reach out to young people in Kāpiti and appeal to the whole youth range,” Youth Council and Ngā Kākano member Hana Katene-Burge says. “It’s a really great event for young people to have fun, connect with others and show off their talents if they want to.”
