New Governance Structure for Economic Development Leadership Group
A new governance structure has been agreed to continue the work of the interim Economic Development Leadership Group and support the delivery of the Kāpiti District Economic Development Strategy 2015-2018.
The interim Leadership Group was established in May 2015 to ensure momentum and continuity in the first year of the Strategy’s implementation.
During the year the Group has spearheaded a number of initiatives, including the Tech Expo at Coastlands and visitor attraction plan, and looked at options for sustainable leadership model for the future.
The new governance structure agreed at Thursday 21 July’s Environment and Community Development Committee will see the Economic Development Leadership Group adopt a reduced membership and independent Chair.
Elected member representation is reduced to two from four, with Councillor Gavin Welsh and Mayor Ross Church representing Council.
The remaining members of the Economic Development Leadership Group, which will include one Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency representative, and Chair will be appointed by the end of September.
The primary function of the new Leadership Group is to monitor the effectiveness of the Economic Development Strategy, implementation activity and foster greater engagement and connections with other stakeholders.
