No8 Wire proving popular

No8 Wire Week got underway over the weekend with two full-on days of sustainability-focused workshops and activities. 

Council’s Sustainable Communities Co-ordinator Vanessa Crowe the No8 Wire Week programme is a chance to up skill on anything from bees to bikes, kombucha, crafts and composting.

“It’s about giving people the chance to learn useful skills for themselves, their community and the environment from local experts in a friendly, hands-on setting,” she says.

“The No8 Wire workshops were a popular part of the Sustainable Home and Garden Show, and though the show is no longer with us, the workshops are continuing and proving more popular than ever.

“We’re getting heaps of positive feedback from attendees so far.”

Serena Harper, who attended a gardening workshop, said: “It’s brilliant and really great that you can bring your kids. The demonstrator is very knowledgeable. I look forward to the next one.”

The programme has free, practical and fun workshops for all ages, as well as a range of community-based events such as tree plantings, Matariki celebrations and a free film screening at Kapiti College on Thursday night.

No8 Wire Week runs July 16-24 at venues up and down the coast.

Most workshops are free but people are encouraged to book to secure a space.
