Phoenix put on show for Kāpiti
A crowd of more than 2000 descended on Weka Park over the weekend to watch the Wellington Phoenix play in Kāpiti.
The A-League football team took part in a friendly preseason game against a Capital Football XI, which they won 3-nil.
Council’s Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law says the recent warmer weather in Kāpiti means speciality draining processes and detailed mowing worked out well on Saturday.
“Our parks team and turf specialists put a lot of effort into the grounds over the last couple of weeks getting the pitch looking particularly good for our special guests,” she says.
“Hosting these types of high profile games highlights the quality of our sports facilities here in Kāpiti, especially when teams such as the Phoenix are keen to play here as part of their preseason preparation.
“It was great seeing fans lining the ground and spilling out of the Kāpiti Coast United clubrooms creating a festival atmosphere for the game and a great day out for friends and families on the coast.”
Council teamed with Kāpiti Coast United Football Club to host the side in what was their fifth outing at the Raumati park.
