Wellington Saints Basketball team come to Ōtaki
The Wellington Saints Basketball team will be in Ōtaki 19 July to try out the new community basketball court in Haruatai Park.
After considering community feedback and working with young people in Ōtaki, Council agreed to build a new keyhole, or half-sized, basketball court in the grass area at the bottom of park earlier this year.
Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law says the event tomorrow at Haruatai Park will see special guests the Wellington Saints join in a free throw competition alongside the community at an event at the court.
“It’s a real coup to be able to secure the Saints to come to Ōtaki to check out our new court and showcase one of our popular community facilities, Haruatai Park.”
The court is the first stage of work to make the park a great recreational space for different age groups and also includes an upgrade of the playground in the park, Ms Law says.
“We want to create spaces for the community that are accessible, fun, varied and cater for a wide range of abilities. Our goal is to design interesting playgrounds that meet the needs of children and their caregivers.”
The Wellington Saints will be at Haruatai Park from 11am at Mill Road for a free-throw competition, music, and a free barbeque.
