Arawa Street beach access to be restored
Work commenced this week to restore the Arawa Street beach access point at Raumati Beach that was damaged in the July 2016 storm event.
Infrastructure Services Group Manager Sean Mallon says the work involves fixing the storm-damaged retaining wall and replacing the temporary steps with permanent concrete steps.
“Repair works were originally scheduled for earlier in the year but we decided to delay the work to minimise disruption and allow local residents access to the beach via Arawa Street over the summer months.”
Construction work is expected to take approximately six weeks, subject to favourable weather conditions.
To enable repair works to be carried out safely, local residents are advised to use the beach access points at Tainui Street off Matatua Road or Marine Parade until the Arawa Street beach access point is restored.
