Council 'delighted' with results of Building Accreditation Audit

The Kāpiti Coast District Council has passed a two-yearly review of its Building Consent Authority accreditation with flying colours.

Auditors from International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) carried out the review this week.

Kevin Currie, Group Manager Regulatory Services, says he's delighted with the results, which highlight the quality of Council's processes and performance.

"This is extremely pleasing and a testament to our building team's on-going commitment to continuous improvement and our open for business approach. I'm very proud of the whole team and the work they're doing."

"Having good systems and processes is the foundation to delivering excellent, accurate and timely service to our customers and that's been reflected in the results of this audit."

Mr Currie said the auditor's formal report is yet to arrive but they have advised staff of their key findings.

"The audit has identified outstanding performance, and only one general non-compliance of an administrative nature. This will be fixed, and we'll also look at adopting a number of recommendations they've put forward for minor improvements."

Councils are required under government legislation to hold Building Consent Authority status before they can issue building consents, inspect building work and issue code compliance certificates. Accreditation assessments are carried out on behalf of central government, assessing each council against government regulations and standards.

"The bottom line, and what really matters," says Mr Currie, "is that we retain our accreditation to undertake building consenting functions and the community can be assured our processes are very sound."
