Council reminds the community to keep an eye on their animals over the summer
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is reminding the community to keep an eye on pets and livestock over the summer as the incidents of stray and roaming animal reports have taken an upward turn over the past month.
Environmental Standards Manager Jacquie Muir says that the Council shelter has had an unusual number of roaming goats and large birds reported over the past few months.
"Once a goat is picked up by Council after being called in, it generally proves pretty tricky to successfully locate its owner no matter how hard we try through our communications channels," Muir says.
"Although we have successfully re-homed a few animals, it isn't guaranteed that we will always be able to. So, we urge Kāpiti Coast animal owners to familiarise themselves with the rules around keeping stock, birds, and other animals in residential areas."
