Deadline looming to have your say on renaming SH1
There’s less than a week to go to put forward your suggestions for renaming State Highway 1 (SH1) once it becomes a local road.
More than 300 people have had their say on name options for SH1 so far and the Kāpiti Coast District Council is encouraging those who want to put forward suggestions to do so by 5pm Friday 14 April.
Mayor K Gurunathan says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the community to shape the district’s local character.
“All suggestions put forward by the community that meet the State Highway 1 renaming criteria will be considered alongside the names put forward by representatives/historians from the district’s three iwi and a Council-nominated local historian before a final decision is made by the full Council later this year.”
To have your say on name options for the existing SH1:
• talk to your community board
• email [email protected]
• complete the form on the back of the Council’s Renaming SH1 information leaflet which is available at all Kāpiti Coast District libraries and service centres and on the Council’s website at kapiticoast.govt.nz/SH1-renaming
